SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITY
The Patient Care Administrator (PCA) is responsible for the overall direction of hospice clinical services.
Essential Functions
- Leads, supports and directs the development of a work environment that achieves the mission and goals of the company and brings meaning and value to the work carried out by the employees.
- Adheres to the Compliance Program, including confidentiality of HIPAA and protected health information.
- Promotes and monitors compliance with requirements and standards established by accrediting or licensing agencies, regulatory agencies and state or federal law relevant to areas of responsibility.
- Actively participates with the Case Managers, Medical Directors, and Provider Relations Director on appropriateness questions for unusual pending cases.
- Reviews all re-certification recommendations prior to continuation or discharge and participates in all revocation discussions prior to discharge.
- Provides support for survey processes, including providing assistance with preparation for survey, writing plans of correction, developing action plans, and monitoring for continued compliance.
- Identify quality clinical indicators that need improvement. Develops and implements the nursing strategic plan based on best practices.
- Assures and monitors case management aspects of patient care including the approval of the following components with company guidelines: pharmacy, DME, supplies, x-rays, labs, and other clinical issues that support end of life care.
- Maintains a working knowledge of Medicare hospice benefit, patients’ rights, advanced directives, patient participation requirements for end of life care, and available resources available to patients and families at end of life.
- Keeps up-to-date on new methods, products, and trends in pain management and hospice care.
- Assures assignment of patient care staff based on competency of available personnel. Monitors scheduling of patient care staff to provide adequate coverage to include 24- hour call.
- Provide leadership for interdisciplinary team meetings; the development, review and revision of the patient/family plan of care; facilitation of problem-solving sessions, and delivery of team support.
- Plans and implements in-service and continuing education programs to meet educational and training needs of personnel.
- Provides guidance and support to clinical team and Case Managers to assist in continually improving all aspects of hospice care services.
- Interprets operational indicators to detect census changes and increases or decreases in volume that could impact staffing levels, revenues, or expenses.
- Completes all clinical personnel performance evaluations in a timely manner.
- Investigates and completes detailed reports of any incidents/accidents, grievances, complaints, medication errors and other problems within the time frames established by policy and implements corrective and/or preventive action(s) immediately.
- Regularly reviews safety policies and procedures; ensures that all employees are oriented to and understand their role in safety procedures.
- Participates in on-call rotation.
- Other duties as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.
Required Education and Experience
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
- Currently licensed by the Ohio Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse required
- Current CPR certification
- Minimum of two years of hospice experience required.
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, health administration, or related field highly preferred.
- Minimum of three years of leadership and supervisory experience in a clinical setting required, including full accountability for both quality and financial outcomes, preferably in a hospice, home health or related program.
